Title: Assistant Basketball Coach
Reports To: Head Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics, Vice President for
Student Life
Job Summary: Under general direction of the Head Basketball Coach, performs a wide range of difficult-to-complex coaching and administrative activities related to the development and implementation of a competitive basketball program. This includes but is not limited to assisting the head basketball coach in all phases of the program in compliance with the mission of the college and the NAIA rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities: Director of basketball operations
- Arrange all team travel arrangements/itineraries. Turn in necessary documentation to the Business Office on a timely basis.
- Arrange proper paperwork for table workers and officials for working games.
- Help oversee daily budgetary management as it relates to routine expenditures.
- General office management in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Cottey College.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress to best ensure standards are being met.
- Facility scheduling and preparation - coordination in scheduling facilities usage and preparation for practices and games
- Community Service involvement and fundraising requirements as assigned by Head Coach, Athletic Department, or Cottey College
- Ensure working knowledge of NAIA rules, college policies and procedures, and athletic department rules and regulations
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics
Duties and Responsibilities: Assistant Basketball Coach
- Practice planning and instruction
- Assist in coaching duties during games and practices
- Scout and recruit prospective student/athletes
- Scout opponents and assist in game planning
- Supervise the videotaping of practices and games
- Compile and record statistics using Presto and the NAIA statistics website
- Travel to all away games and assist in all duties including driving of a college vehicle
- Possess a valid Missouri driver's license (Class E)
- Instruct and supervise strength training program
- Supervise pre-season and post-season conditioning workouts and individual player workouts
- Be knowledgeable and responsible for athletic taping of athletes, as well as care, prevention, and treatment of injuries
- Supervise the athletic training room and locker room
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess the knowledge of principles and practices of women's sports as they apply to a college setting. This includes supervision, communication, time management, public relations, program planning, budget development, facility management, equipment management, office procedures, and business operations.
Skills in communication effective verbally and written, with a diverse range of audiences and settings. This includes proper handling of emotional situations, word processing, computer skills, financial aptitude, and the ability to work well with internal and external constituents.
Possession of a valid Missouri motor vehicle operators license (Class E) and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment if a college vehicle is unavailable.
Credentials and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, or related fields from an accredited college or university
Three years’ experience in sports coaching, including working familiarity with the rules and regulations of NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA or High School.
Commitment to education of women a single-sex institution, and the advancement of women in a collegiate sports program
